Casting one’s mind back, the first Huntsman film garnered international headlines when leading lady Kristen Stewart was found to have cheated on then boyfriend Robert Pattinson with the film’s director Rupert Sanders. Perhaps Stewart felt it was one bite of the poisoned apple and twice shy, for she is not part of the cast in this sequel, although Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin and Nick Frost are. Here, two evil sisters (Theron and Emily Blunt) prepare to conquer a fairytale land. Two renegades (Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain) set out to stop them. Winner of the Best Director award at the Sundance Film festival and the Crystal Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, this ‘transdrama’ concerns the ‘sacred Tuesdays’ reserved for a woman who is undergoing gender reassignment to become a man and her teenager daughter.
