Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip
If you loved the first three big screen versions of the popular children’s cartoon from the 80’s, then you are in for a treat this weekend. Through a series of misunderstandings, chipmunk pop sensations Alvin, Simon and Theodore believe that their ‘father’ Dave (Jason Lee) is going to propose to his new girlfriend in Miami…and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother. Showing right across the UK, the official Facebook page has more.
A Bigger Splash
Sexy relationship drama with Tilda Swinton as a female David Bowie rock star whose vacation with her younger lover (Matthias Schoenaerts) is interrupted by the arrival of her former beau Ralph Fiennes and his daughter Dakota Johnson. This will have a wide release, so check out Find Any Film for your nearest participating cinema. The official Facebook page will give you the details.
Concussion
No, not the abysmal and dull ‘lesbian knocked on the head who suddenly turns into a high class gay hooker’ drama I had the “pleasure” of seeing some years ago, this is a decidedly more lively and interesting piece with Will Smith as a doctor who made the first discovery of a football-related brain trauma in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known. His quest puts him at dangerous odds with one of the most powerful institutions in the world.
A topical film given the current international debate about the diversity and inclusiveness of the Oscars and the movie industry in general, it will be playing at just about every cinema in the UK. The official Sony Pictures webpage has the trailer.
The Green Inferno
Here’s a lovely film: a group of ‘right-on’ American environmentalists travel to the Peruvian rainforest to help steer away the people who are chopping it all down. When their plane crashes, they come across an ancient, cannibalistic tribe who are hungry for some yankee flesh. See the Tumblr site for more details. This will be on a limited run only so Find Any Film will point you to your nearest movie house.
I’ll See You In My Dreams
